Calling Directors, Designers & Actors

The Phoenix theatre is looking for Directors, Designers and Actors to develop its season for 2012 and beyond. The Phoenix offers a unique opportunity for creative’s to engage in a cultural dialogue with the audience and connect with new audiences in ways not fully explored in the Illawarra. We are looking for people who think outside the box rather than replicate what already exists within the region's other fine companies. At the Phoenix, we hope to develop a style of theatre that is about filling in the gaps for our audience and developing a new way of working. So if you have felt there is something missing from the theatre scene or you want to find new ways of expressing yourself in a an environment that encourages diversity and freedom get in contact with us and open a dialogue.

Would You Like To Get Involved?

Have you ever thought that there is something missing in Wollongong’s theatre scene? Are you annoyed that there is no regular venue for the alternative or culturally different, outside of festivals and one offs.
At the Phoenix Theatre we are attempting to redress this and build an audience that knows they can come to the phoenix and see something different; we have three criteria for the presentation of work.

1. Is it Interesting
2. Is it Achievable
3. Does it promote our philosophy of cultural diversity

There are many forms of theatre which Wollongong audiences will travel to Sydney for but not attend at home often because there is no regular venue for these performances. At 94 auditorium seats and 80 cabaret seats the phoenix is the right size to experiment in and develop skills and new works. Our stage is large enough to develop works for touring to bigger theatres and intimate enough to make a connection with the audience.

The Phoenix Theatre is censorship free and encourages diversity and freedom of expression in all forms of the arts. We have gallery exhibition space available and will offer hanging space to artists for seasons of shows to get their work on display.

If you are interested in any of the below forms of performance get in contact with us and open a creative dialogue, perhaps we can help you.

There are so many forms of theatre and performance we haven’t mentioned, so suggest some. At the Phoenix, we love to say yes to projects and make things happen. Our aim is to work in consultation with the creative community of the region and benefit the cultural fabric of the Illawarra, strengthening it through diversity. We also welcome the opportunity to work with other groups on collaborative projects.
