A young boy packs a bag and jumps on the next train to the city. He is running away from home. On the train he meets a young girl of similar age, who he spends the day entire day with, traipsing around the city as they told each other stories and secrets. As the sun begins to set the boy decides that life isn’t so bad after all, and the duo decide to return home. As they part ways on the train platform the young girl asks the young boy one final question. “Will you give me something to put on my bucket list?”
Over many years the young boy becomes a man, and through every experience and event he carries that one question with him. Every new connection made in his life, no matter how temporary, is given the opportunity to impart onto him a task to complete before he dies. And now when he looks back upon his life he remembers the people that he met and the mark they left on him. The girl that set next to him on a boring flight who dared him to go skydiving. The lovely couple he met on a holiday that told him to tell 5 people he hates that he loves and respects them. The young girl on the train station who asked him to read Ulysses by James Joyce.
This is a paraphrasing of a story posted on the website Reddit in 2014, which was later read by three young men sitting around a table filling out a grant application in 2015. This story struck a chord with all three of them, and became the inspiration point for Beautiful Chaotic Nonsense.
