Lights Out Nellie Martin
by Wendy Richardson
10th - 25th April 2015

Written in Wendy Richardson's unique style, the action of the play moves from the Martin house on Cliff Road Wollongong to the blitz in London and an island in Malaysia. Utilising archival footage from newsreels, photographs and radio broadcasts, the play tells the tale of women in war time on the home front and includes the massacre of Australian nurses by the Japanese. The play also contains music from the period.
There are plenty of laughs, tears and insights into life in Wollongong for women during the war, with insights into how the war affected us as a nation and changed the way we thought of ourselves forever.
