  • Man of La Mancha is the record breaking and game changing 1965 musical based on the tale of Don Quixote, who like his creator Miguel de Cervantes, is a man of La Mancha.

In the 16th century, traveling player and tax collector Miguel de Cervantes is thrown into prison by the Spanish Inquisition for trying to force a monastery to pay tax. He must confront the Inquisition and defend his actions to prevent himself burning at the stake. Before he is taken before the Inquisition, he is thrown in a dark dungeon room to wait with other accused. There he must defend his actions to his fellow prisoners or have his throat cut and his possessions taken.

He proceeds to play out the life story of a mad gentleman who believes himself to be a knight of La Mancha, gone forth into the dark and terrible world to right wrongs and defend the weak. He relates the tale of how the madman stumbles onto a tavern and defends its serving wench, who he believes to be the lady Dulcinea. The story of madness in a mad world and a man who is gentle, and kind being seen, as a danger is as timeless as the songs from it.
