Medea

by Euripides and adapted by Steen

22nd - 30th August 2025

  • Medea gave up everything to help Jason and his Argonauts win the Golden Fleece, betraying her country, her family and her gods to help him. She enchants the much younger Jason to win his love and, now alone on the other side of the world, he has deserted her and their two sons to marry a Princess and rule in Corinth, where they have settled.

Medea has taken refuge in a derelict temple where she is visited by Jason, King Creon of Corinth and Aegeus of Athens, who try and reason with her and calm her often violent temper. With her is a Greek chorus of women, also brought from other places and mistreated by the male dominated society that was ancient Greece. Desperate and friendless, Medea takes terrible revenge on Jason and those who have brought her to this low place.
