R.U.R

by Karol Capek and adapted by Steen

21st - 29th June 2024

  • A new adaptation of Karol Capek's seminal science fiction play where the word robot was first used. R.U.R takes place on a remote island where the company Rossum's Universal Robots, has been making artificial people for several years. An activist and the President's daughter comes to the island to free the robots from slavery and show them some humanity. In an attempt to make robots more like humans she inadvertently sews the seeds for the obliteration of the human race. This new adaptation feeds those offspring back into the parent and updates the story for a world where AI makes it hard to know what is real.
